"I Need That Record" Filmmaker Brendan Toller's New Project

Back in May, following the suggestions of many customers, Willimantic Records and The Thread City Film Brigade hosted a screening of I Need That Record followed by a Q&A session with INTR filmmaker Brendan Toller and an acoustic set of music from Malcolm Tent. It was a great night. A large crowd turned out, with the event drawing in many members of the community who had not previously had occasion to visit the store.

While Brendan was up here for the screening he told me a bit about the amazing material he had been archiving for Danny Fields as part of a huge documentary project on Fields. Ever since that conversation I have been eagerly awaiting a chance to see the completed doc. The historic audio recordings Brendan had been cataloging along with old photos and new interviews with several intriguing folks who had crossed paths with Danny Fields should be of intense interest to everyone who dug the book Please Kill Me! and most anybody in to VU, the Ramones, the Beatles, Andy Warhol, Jonathan Richman, the Stooges, MC5, Cream, the Doors, Alice Cooper, Yippies, Patti Smith, the Clash, Bob Dylan or even just 60s & 70s pop culture history in general.

The documentary is titled Danny Says, which many of you know is the title of a Ramones song from when Fields worked as their manager.

Earlier this week a Kickstarter drive was launched to attain the funding needed to complete this massive work. Please check it out and contribute if you can.
