Friday, November 23rd: 10am to 9pm
Saturday, November 24th: 10am to 7pm
Sunday, November 25th:  11am to 6pm

Admittedly, I have not done much to hype Black Friday, but please rest assured that Willimantic Records is a participating Record Store Day retailer and several of the exclusive Black Friday Record Store Day releases will be available here on Friday, November 23rd. Willimantic Records will open at 10am on Friday, so there will be time beforehand for those who plan on visiting my friends at Redscroll in Wallingford (they do Black Friday right, and it is always a lot of fun, plus they usually have delicious snacks).

From 5pm to 9pm on Friday there will be a celebration of the Desmond Von Bora/Vulturetown Press joint art show with free live music here at Willimantic Records performed by Night of the Rabbit, Norm, Banjo Besties, Amy Lace, and the Lamb Bombs.

But don't wait until Friday to stop by. There are plenty of new releases in now (Wednesday 11/21). The 20th anniversary Bikini Kill ep reissue is in, along with the new Neil Young, the fantastic Jukebox Mambo comp, new Brian Eno, a new LP by The Evens (Amy Farina & Ian Mackaye), new Menahan Street Band, a vinyl reissue of the Elliot Smith "XO" LP, new Acid Mothers Temple, a reissue of the long out of print Bert Jansch "Heartbreak" LP, a limited edition Sleep reissue, a live Dinosaur Jr. album recorded during the "Livin' All Over Me" era, a drcarlsonalbion and the Hackney Lass double 7" (Dylan Carlson from Earth), and a bunch more new stuff, including the wonderful new Colorguard/Weak Flesh split cassette release.

On Saturday several Willimantic businesses will be taking part in Small Business Saturday. Check the brand new DowntownWillimantic.org website for information on the great restaurants and locally owned businesses in the area. "While we share the enthusiasm for Small Business Saturday, in Willimantic's Downtown it's Small Business Every Day." - DowntownWillimantic.org

File Under: "No Maggie Thatcher And No Government"

This morning Sweet Apple released a promo video for their cover of Alice Cooper's "Elected". Here it is:

Monday, Nov. 5th: Willimantic Records will be open 5pm to 10pm tonight for in store show and shopping.

Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis (drums/guitar/vocals),  Cobra Verde's Tim Parnin (guitar) and John Petkovic (vocals/guitar), and Witch's Dave Sweetapple (bass/vocals) are Sweet Apple. Willimantic records still has copies of their limited edition "Elected"/"No Government" single for sale. They cover Alice Cooper on the A-side of the 7" and Anti Pasti on the flip. Since Sweet Apple haven't released a video to promote the record, up above is the Alice Cooper promo clip from 1972. A couple of used copies of Alice Cooper's LPs with "Elected" are also currently in stock. Sorry, the Anti Pasti sold already.

A few long time Willimantic residents might remember seeing Petkovic's band Death of Samantha up the block at the Populous Pudding about a quater of a century ago, which is all the excuse I need to share a couple of their tunes.

The Lesserthans, Hanging Hills, and Connor Dotay are playing in the shop tonight. Normally Willimantic Records is closed on Mondays, but we will be open 5pm to 10pm tonight for what should be a great show. Stop by, maybe pick up an election themed record, then try to forget about politics for a while and just enjoy some good live music.

Vulturetown Press just dropped off their latest design.
