Autonomedia Calendar of Jubilee Saints, 2013

As mentioned in the previous post, the 2013 Autonomedia calendars are now in stock and for sale ($9.95). The 2012 Autonomedia calendar on the wall here at Willimantic Records attracted a lot of attention, so I am glad to be able to offer customers the new 2013 calendar. For those unfamiliar with Autonomedia's Jubilee Saints calendars, this is their 21st annual edition. The cover artwork is by James Koehnline (whose collage was used for the F.O.G. III Tulpa comp) and the text by the Autonomedia Collective. Each day of the year is designated as a holiday, with a radical hero highlighted as a "Jubilee Saint," and  historical events listed along the side of the calendar.

Arthur Magazine is Back! And the 2013 Autonomedia Calendars are in, too!

Arthur Magazine  is publishing again. Their comeback issue just arrived today. The Autonomedia Jubilee Saints 2013 calendars were delivered today, as well. Many folks have asked about the 2012 Autonomedia calendar on the wall here at Willimantic Records. Now is your chance to scoop up the 2013 edition. And for anyone who wanted the new FM3 Buddha Machine 4, restock of all four colors came in this afternoon.

Sublime Frequencies Filmmaker Olivia Wyatt Will Screen 3 of Her Films Here At Willimantic Records at 5pm on Sunday, December 16th

Olivia Wyatt went to Ethiopia to document the Festival of a Thousand Stars. When the festival was cancelled, she ended up hitchhiking across the country and visiting as many tribes as she could. Come to Willimantic Records on Sunday, December 16th to see the resulting beautiful film along with two of her other films. Olivia Wyatt will be there to take questions and share her adventures feeding wild hyenas and riding in the back of trucks with AK47 armed fellow hitchhikers.

Staring into the Sun is the latest ethno-folk cinema classic from Sublime Frequencies. Ethiopia is known to be one of the oldest areas inhabited by humans and presently has over 80 diverse ethnic groups. Photographer/filmmaker Olivia Wyatt explores 13 different tribes throughout Ethiopia in this visually stunning film. Traveling from the northern highlands to the lower Omo Valley, Wyatt brings together the worlds of Zar spirit possession; Hamer tribal wedding ceremonies; Borena water well polyphonic singing; wild hyena feedings; and bizarre Ethiopian TV segments; presenting an enchanting look at these ethereal images, landscapes and sounds from the horn of Africa. The tribes featured in this film are captured with an unflinching sense of realism and poetic admiration resulting in a visual and aural feast of the senses.”

The Pierced Heart and The Machete to be released on Sublime Frequencies later this year. Olivia Wyatt’s latest film, The Pierced Heart & The Machete, is a vivid, unflinching exploration of two annual Vodou pilgrimages in Haiti. The first is for Èzili Danto, goddess of love, art and passion; worshippers from all over the world descend on the southwestern town of Ville-Bonheur to bathe in the sacred waterfall where Dantò resides. The second pilgrimage is for Dantòs' husband Ogoun, god of war, iron and healing. It takes place at the end of July in the northern town of Plaine du Nord, where hundreds of enraptured practitioners bathe in a mud pool and make flamboyant sacrifices. This beautifully shot film offers disorienting yet illuminating glimpses of the contradictory and complementary aspects of these two Lwa, the electrifying rites that summon them, and the intense musical performances that accompany these ecstatic and bloody ceremonies. As in her previous film for Sublime Frequencies, Staring Into the Sun, Wyatt’s vision is always incisive, unerring and unobtrusive.”

Vibraquatic: “a new multimedia collaboration of Cooper Crain’s Bitchin Bajas (CAVE) and globetrotting film-maker Olivia Wyatt (Sublime Frequencies). In Vibraquatic, three psychedelic movements are paired with lush prismatic distortions and intense ritual behaviors. Fans of Terry Riley and Bryon Gysin will not be disappointed. Get into the zone.”

SUBLIME FREQUENCIES is a collective of explorers dedicated to acquiring and exposing obscure sights and sounds from modern and traditional urban and rural frontiers via film and video, field recordings, radio and short wave transmissions, international folk and pop music, sound anomalies, and other forms of human and natural expression not documented sufficiently through all channels of academic research, the modern recording industry, media, or corporate foundations. SUBLIME FREQUENCIES is focused on an aesthetic of extra-geography and soulful experience inspired by music and culture, world travel, research, and the pioneering recording labels of the past including OCORA, SMITHSONIAN FOLKWAYS, ETHNIC FOLKWAYS, LYRICHORD, NONESUCH EXPLORER, MUSICAPHONE, BARONREITER, UNESCO, PLAYASOUND, MUSICAL ATLAS, CHANT DU MONDE, B.A.M., TANGENT, and TOPIC. http://www.sublimefrequencies.com/

This event is presented by Willimantic Records and the Thread City Film Brigade.

Admission is free with donations to the filmmaker encouraged. Olivia Wyatt is a Rockaway resident. She lost almost everything to Hurricane Sandy. If you attend, please consider donating $5 to help make her trip up to Willimantic worthwhile.
